Due to the worsening epidemiological situation, when the Anti-Epidemic System in the Czech Republic moved to tier 4, all the libraries and reading rooms at the IAH CAS are closed for the public until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience!

Dear readers, we would like to inform you that both the libraries, Library of the IAH CAS and the Library of Musicology as well as the Reading rooms, will open again from 3 December 2020 with the following restrictions.

We cordially invite you to the conference "Photo: Science. Photography and Scientific Discourses" which takes place on 1-2 December 2020 online. For the programme, please, see the attachment. On the eve of the conference on 30 November 2020 a plenary lecture "Event Horizon Telescope and Black Hole Images" is scheduled at 7.00 pm CET.

The generous gift of 3,000 titles devoted to the problem of Jerusalem was taken over today, on Wednesday, 14 October, by the Institute of Art History of the CAS. The extraordinary book collection was donated to the institute by Bianca Kühnel from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem based on her collaboration with Klára Benešovská from the Department of Medieval Art. Both researchers have devoted their entire academic careers to the Middle Ages.

We cordially invite you to the Seventh Zelenka Conference to be held in Prague 16 October 2020. The conference is organized by Ensemble Inégal with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and co-organized with the Institute of Art History, The Czech Academy of Sciences. Due to coronavirus measures, this year's conference will also be live-streamed. Registrants will be able to interactively participate in the conference online, and an online recording of the conference will be made available.

On 23–24 October 2020, the Institute of Art History, Czech Academy of Sciences, hosts an international digital workshop titled ‘Women in Nineteenth-Century Czech Musical Culture’. Registration is free and is open to everyone. However, in order to monitor numbers and, if necessary, adjust tech settings, registration is essential by Thursday, 15 October 2020, 22:00 (Prague time). The official workshop languages are German and English.

We would like to draw your attention to the new exhibition in the Windows Gallery of the IAH CAS from 23 September 2020. The exhibition entitled 'Josef Sudek: So-called Fine Art Photography' is being organised within the Photograph-Festival and held until 13 December 2020. The guided tour with the curator Hana Buddeus takes place on 14 October 2020.

Under the auspices of the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Prof. Eva Zažímalová, an international congress “Current Issues of Mozart Research III” will be held on 9 October 2020 in Prague, in Villa Lanna (Prague 6, V Sadech 1). The congress is organised by the Institute of Art History of the CAS in cooperation with the Mozart Society in the Czech Republic and funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Among speakers, there are members of the Akademie für Mozart-Forschung at the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg and other German, Austrian, and English Mozart experts. Due to the epidemiological situation, speakers will hold their papers online. However, their presentations will be transmitted at the Villa Lanna. We would like to inform you that on 1 October 2020 another exhibition will be open in the Regional Museum in Chrudim with the title 'Faith in Art - Art in Faith: Visual Culture in the Chrudim Region in the Middle Ages'. The opening takes place at 4 pm and the exhibition remains open until 31 January 2021. For more information see the attachment.

In the series 'L’opera italiana nei territori boemi durante il Settecento' published by the Academia Publishing House, the fifth volume appeared with the title 'Il Demofoonte come soggetto per il dramma per musica', edited by Milada Jonášová and Tomislav Volek. The volume comprises papers presented at the international musicological conference held in Český Krumlov in 2019.

The international musicological conference 'Italian Opera - Between Original and Pasticcio' scheduled on 19-20 September 2020 has been cancelled due to the epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic.

We would like to inform you, that the lecture series ‘Collegium historiae artium’, being organised by the IAH CAS, has been cancelled due to the epidemiologic situation. As soon as the situation improves, the lecture series will be rescheduled. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you soon!

The sixth international musicological conference on 18th-century Italian operas in the Bohemian lands will be held as part of the Festival of Baroque Art in Český Krumlov on 19-20 September 2020. This year’s theme is “Italian Opera – Between Original and Pasticcio”. The conference will take place in the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov, and is organised by the Institute of Art History, CAS, under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, and in cooperation with the Town Theatre Český Krumlov, the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov, the Hof-Musici ensemble, and the Mozart Society in the Czech Republic. The conference is supported financially by the Commission for the Regional Cooperation of the Regions and Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

We cordially invite to the exhibition at the Regional Museum in Chrudim which has been organised in cooperation with IAH CAS. The exhibition presents the work of František Schmoranz Sr. in the context of times when the historical styles began to be studied and when centralised care for heritage started to develop.

On Wednesday 9 September 2020 a two-volume-publication 'Imago/Imagines: Metamorphoses of their Function in the Medieval Bohemian Lands' will be solemnly introduced to a wider public. The presentation takes place at Cafe Academia, Wenceslas Square 1, Prague at 5 pm.

The Institute of Art History of the CAS invites junior researchers, Ph.D. holders, to apply for a postdoc scholarship funded by the Czech Academy of Sciences Applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in the past 2 years (before the beginning of the scholarship) with the exception of time spent on maternal/parental leave, on sick leave if this is longer than 90 days as well as compulsory military service.
