World Photo Day and the 10th Anniversary of the Conservation Lab of the IAH

World Photo Day and the 10th Anniversary of the Conservation Lab of the IAH

On Sunday, 19th August 2018, we commemorated the World Photo Day. On this day in 1839, the invention of daguerreotype, one of the first practically used photographic method, was officially introduced to the members of the French Academy of Sciences. After 179 years, photography has gone through complicated developments. Varied photographic techniques have emerged, some of them have become a dead end in the development of photography, others are still used till today. As the years passed, photographs started to show aging, inappropriate storage and damage caused by various causes. Archives, museums and other institutions often have a large number of photographic materials in their collections, and in the last few years they are more and more focusing on their rescue and preventive care. This is the task of the Conservation Lab of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (IAH), which celebrates 10 years since its foundation. For further details and important actions organised by the IAH CAS see the attachment.
