On 21–22 September 2019 an international musicological conference on the theme “Il Demofoonte as a subject for dramma per musica: Johann Adolf Hasse and other composers of the 18th century” will be held in the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov. The conference is being organised by the Institute of Art History, Czech Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov, the Hof-Musici ensemble, and the Mozart Society in the Czech Republic, under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, and with the financial support of the Commission for the Regional Cooperation of the Regions and Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and of the Johann Adolf Hasse-Stiftung in Hamburg.

After the summer break, the lecture series Collegium Historiae Artium continues with a presentation by Klara Kemp-Welch (The Courtauld Institute of Art) on „Networking the Bloc: Reassembling the Social in East European Experimental Art 1965-1981". We would like to invite you to the exhibition "Imago/Imagines. Medieval Society in Times of Wenceslas IV: Visual Evidence", which will be open from the 4 September till the 26 October 2019 at the Gallery of Sciences and Arts (Czech Academy of Sciences, Národní 3, Prague 1). The exhibition was prepared by the Department of Medieval Art, IAH CAS for the 600 anniversary of Wenceslas IV's death in 1419. It will be open from Monday till Friday from 9 am until 6 pm.

On Monday 19 August 2019 we celebrated the World Photography Day. On this day in 1839, the daguerreotype was officially presented to the members of the French Academy of Sciences. During the 180 years, photography has developed dramatically. Various techniques evolved, some of which did not reach any success, some are being used till today. Archives, museums as well as other institutions keep sometimes quite large collections of photographic material. Recently, attention has been paid to its research and preservation. The Department of Documentation of the IAH keeps a large photographic collection of about photographs.

The Institute of Art History, CAS in cooperation with the Josef Sudek Studio coordially invite you to the exhibition "Sudek: Images and Reflections", which will open on Thursday 27 June 2019 at 6 pm at the Josef Sudek Studio, Újezd 30, Prague 1. The chief curator is Martin Pavlis from the Photo Archive of the IAH CAS.

Under the auspices of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany H. E. Dr. Christoph Israng and as part of the Strategy AV21 research programme “Memory in the Digital Age”, the Institute of Art History, Czech Academy of Sciences, together with the Mozart Society in the Czech Republic and with the support of the Technical University in Munich, is organising an exhibition and international conference under the title “The Bertramka – A German Perspective (1942)”. The conference will take place on 22 June 2019 in the Bertramka villa, where an exhibition will also be installed, with facsimiles of nearly 100 previously unknown drawings, plans, and sketches of the Bertramka from the years 1925 and 1942–1943 that have been found in the Architecture Museum at the Technical University in Munich. They are the work of Professor Georg Buchner (1890‒1971) and his advanced students from the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich. The exhibition also contains Buchner’s distinctive drawings and sketches of parts of Prague, as well as a number of contemporary photographs. The curators responsible for the exhibition are Milada Jonášová and Prof. Manfred Hermann Schmid (University of Tübingen), who discovered the collection. Because of the limited capacity of the concert hall in the Bertramka villa, you are asked to confirm your interest in attending the conference to the address jonasova@udu.cas.cz by 19 June 2019. Attendance at the opening is by invitation only. The exhibition will be open to the public on 23 June 2019 and other dates, which will be published on the Mozart Society website at http://www.bertramka.eu.

Since 2019 the Institute of Art History CAS has been publishing the Musicology Journal. The first issue in the graphic desing of Jan Šerých was just published. In the editorial, a new concept of the journal as well as of the recently established Department of Musicology at the IAH CAS are presented.

The Library of Musicology of the IAH CAS opens again after reconstruction and sanitation of the books fund. The library is situated at the Puškin Square 9, Prague 1 and is open Mondays and Wednesdays always from 10 till 5:30 pm, with a lunch break from 12 until 1 pm. On 30 April 2019 a joint project of the IAH CAS and Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art was presented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York., The cooperation resulted in a digital facsimile, with transcription and translation, of notes by Vincenc Kramář, on Picasso's 1913 exhibition at Heinrich Thannhauser's Moderne Galerie in Munich. The original notes are located in the Department of Documentation of the IAH CAS in Prague.

On Wednesday 15 May 2019 Milan Pelc (Institute of Art History, Zagreb) will talk on: „Reception of Prints and Innovative Iconography in the Late Gothic Miniature: Examples from Two Zagreb Manuscript Missals". The lecture within the series Collegium historiae artium will take place at 4.30 pm in the lecture theatre of the IAH CAS, room no. 117.

We coordially invite you to the exhibition "Svoboda + Palcr: Seeing Scuplptures", which is open from 10 April till 16 June 2019 at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Cheb. The exhibition presents photographies by Jan Svoboda (1934–1990) as well as a collection of rarely displayed sculptures by Zdeněka Palcr. (1927–1996). The exhibition is curated by Katarína Mašterová from the IAH CAS. The exhibition is open until 16 June 2019.
