In connection with the theme of the conference, the modern-day premiere of an opera, performed by the ensemble Hof-Musici under the direction of Ondřej Macek, will take place in the Baroque Castle Theatre on 18-20 September: the Viennese pasticcio Giulio Cesare in Egitto (1731), made up of arias by Händel, Caldara, Porpora, and Rinaldi.
Italian Opera - Between Original and Pasticcio
The sixth international musicological conference on 18th-century Italian operas in the Bohemian lands will be held as part of the Festival of Baroque Art in Český Krumlov on 19-20 September 2020. This year’s theme is “Italian Opera – Between Original and Pasticcio”. The conference will take place in the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov, and is organised by the Institute of Art History, CAS, under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, and in cooperation with the Town Theatre Český Krumlov, the Centre of Baroque Culture in Český Krumlov, the Hof-Musici ensemble, and the Mozart Society in the Czech Republic. The conference is supported financially by the Commission for the Regional Cooperation of the Regions and Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
