The IAH CAS invites you to the workshop "Paganism in Thinking, Visual Art and Literature at the turn of the 20th century" being organised within the NAKI project "Traces of Art Production. Legacy of Great Sculptors of the First Half of the 20th Century. Restoration and Preservation of Cast Sculptures". The workshop takes place on 15 November 2018 in the Academic Conference Centre, Husova 4a, Prague 1. For programme, please, see the attachment.

On the basis of previous negotiations concerning the establishment of a new musicology department inside the IAH CAS, there was a selection procedure announced in summer for the post of the Head of the Department of Musicology. The procedure was held on 24 September 2018. An international commitee recommended doc. PhDr. Roman Dykast, CSc. Following the decision, further selection procedures have been announced for department members who should be scholars focusing on the history of medieval music, music of the 16th and 17th centuries and music of 18th-21st century. The deadline for the applications is 4 November 2018. The IAH CAS, in cooperation with CAS board, is taking steps to ensure that the new department will be fully functional since 1 January 2019, i.e. it will have its own office space, equipment and a library. At the same time, the IAH CAS will be taking over publishing the journal „Hudební věda“ which has up to now been published by the Institute of Ethnology CAS, and it will be also keeping the musicological bibliography up to date.

On 24–26 October 2018 the 17th meeting to the problems of sepulchral monuments takes place in the Academic Conference Centre in Prague (Husova 4a, Prague 1) with the title "Novissima autem inimica destruetur mors …" (1 Kor 15,26). The 6th Meeting of Czech Art Historians will take place on 20–21 September 2018 in the Museum of Decorative Arts and Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. On Sunday, 19th August 2018, we commemorated the World Photo Day. On this day in 1839, the invention of daguerreotype, one of the first practically used photographic method, was officially introduced to the members of the French Academy of Sciences. After 179 years, photography has gone through complicated developments. Varied photographic techniques have emerged, some of them have become a dead end in the development of photography, others are still used till today. As the years passed, photographs started to show aging, inappropriate storage and damage caused by various causes. Archives, museums and other institutions often have a large number of photographic materials in their collections, and in the last few years they are more and more focusing on their rescue and preventive care. This is the task of the Conservation Lab of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (IAH), which celebrates 10 years since its foundation. The catalogue of the exhibition "Josef Sudek: Topography of Ruins" is now being published by Artefactum Publishing House. The catalogue was edited by Katarína Mašterová, one of the curators. The exhibition can be seen at the House of Photography (Revoluční 5, Prague 1) until 19 August 2018. You can buy the catalogue at the Librabry of the IAH CAS, in chosen bookshops or at the House of Photography.

We invite all interested to send proposals for an interdisciplinary conference on the beginnings of the Czechoslovak Republic "On the Treshold of a New Era". The conference will take place on 26–29 October 2018 at the Czech Academy of Sciences, Národní 3, Prague 1. The conference is held under the auspices of Jaroslav Fenyk, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic and the IAH CAS is one of the organisers. The topic of the conference paper is to be selected in line with panels. In the application form (see download link below), please fill in the name of the panel in which you wish to submit your paper, the name of the paper, the name and institution of the author and an abstract of 200-250 words. You are cordially invited to the workshop and discussion "Negative – Positive – New Print!" on the topic of "new prints" in photography, the new positives made from the original negatives. The event will take place on Tuesday, 12 June 2018. Part of the workshop is the demonstration of the production of a photograph in the darkroom of the IAH with our photographer Vlado Bohdan. The moderated discussion will take place in the House of Photography GHMP at 6 pm.
