The exhibition of Otte Wallish, leading Israeli graphic artist, who was born in Znojmo, is open at the Gallery of the House of Understanding in Znojmo until the end of May 2018. Otte Wallish studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. At the beginning of the thirties he opened his own graphic studio in Prague and cooperated with the Jewish National Fund. During his early period spending mainly in Czechoslovakia he designed advertising leaflets, posters, brochures and graphically edited books. In 1934 he moved to mandatory Palestine where he continued with his art work. In 1948 he graphically designed the Israeli Declaration of Independence and also designed the first Israeli stamps and coins. Alongside the government contracts he also paid attention to commercial projects – he created hundreds of posters, several of them belong to the icons of graphic design in Israel.

Another lecture in the series "Middle Ages in Motion" will take place on Tuesday 15 May 2018 at the IAH CAS. Vladimir Peter Goss (University of Rijeka) will present his research on "Three early Slavic courts at the outskirts of Europe". Wednesday 25 April 2018 at 6.30 pm a book "Instant Presence. Representing Art in Photography" published by Artefactum Publishing House will be presented to the public in the book store ArtMap in Prague (Vojtěšská 196/18, Praha 1).

The book "Cirkus Pictus: Wondrous Beauty and a Miserable Existence: The Visual Arts and Literature 1800–1950" was awarded by the prize The Most Beautiful Czech Books 2017 in the category Specialist Literature. The book written by Tomáš Winter, Pavla Machalíková, Stanislava Fedrová and Hanuš Jordan was published in 2017 by Gallery of Visual Arts in Cheb in cooperation with publishing houses of Arbor vitae and Artefactum. Tereza Hejmová with Adéla Svobodová were responsible for the graphic design of the book.

Tuesday 24 April 2018 at 4 pm already the 42nd lecture in the series "Middle Ages in Motion" will take place at the IAH CAS. Alessandro Taddei is going to speak on "The great cities of Early Byzantine Greece (4-7 AD): Architectural maintenance and strategies of transformation." The international conference "Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria and His Cultural Patronage between Prague and Innsbruck" will take place on 21–23 February 2018 at the Academic Conference Centre (Husova 4a, Prague 1). Annual meeting on the issues of sepulchre monuments has been organised by the Institute of Art History, CAS since 2000. The aim of the meeting is to mediate an interdisciplinary cooperation within the topic. Welcomed are papers referring especially to the Central European material from Middle Ages up to present. Again, a special panel on Jewish sepulchre monuments is planned. Papers are going to be published in the Artefactum Publishing House, in the Epigraphica & Sepulcralia Monographica series.

This workshop, organized by the French Research Center in Humanities and Social Sciences (CEFRES), the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚDU AV ČR), the National Gallery in Prague (NG) and the Institute of Art History of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University (ÚDU FF UK) is open to PhD students, post doctoral students and young researchers.

From 25 January till 29 March 2018 the Galerie Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus in Düsseldorf hosts the premiere of the exhibition project "Josef Sudek: Topography of Ruins". The exhibition presents forty newly-made prints of images which Josef Sudek took in the streets of Prague immediately after the World War II to document the damage sustained by the city. The exhibition will then travel in the same format to Milan, Rome and Warsaw. An expanded version of the exhibition will subsequently be presented in Prague during the summer of 2018.
